Everything you need, in one place
Four tools, one question bank. See what each one actually looks like.
- A DCF values a company by the cash it's expected to generate in the future, discounted to today's dollars.
- It's an intrinsic method: it asks what the business is actually worth based on its own cash flow, not what similar companies currently trade for.
- Public Comps and Precedent Transactions answer that second, market-relative question instead.
- A full valuation typically uses both approaches and compares results, since neither is precisely right alone.
- UFCF captures cash the core, ongoing business generates that's available to ALL investors, debt and equity holders alike, not just one group.
- That single rule decides what's included: Net Interest Expense is excluded (only affects debt investors); one-time gains/losses are excluded (not recurring); most of Cash Flow from Financing is excluded (reflects one investor group's decisions, not the business).
- UFCF feeds directly into Enterprise Value, so it has to stay capital-structure-neutral.
